At Gospel Growth Ministries we are bringing in a better hope, through which we draw near to God. It is the method Christians have used for thousands of years to bring hope and freedom to others. It is a fairly common thing for people to think that they must have help for their specific sin, in their timeframe, in the manner they think they need it.
A case in point is Naaman 2 Kings 5 who came to Elisha because he had leprosy, and he expected specific help from the man of God, and he had certain expectations of exactly how that help should come. Yet the man of God did not do as Naaman expected nor required; he had Naaman do something very humbling instead, sending him off to dunk in the Jordan river 7 times.
What did dunking in a muddy river have to do with curing leprosy?
The two seemed unrelated. Could I not wash in them and be clean? Leprosy is a much deeper problem. And yet Elisha knew what Naaman needed and so did not change his instructions. I'm sure you know the end of the story, when Naaman humbled himself and submitted to the truth he dunked in the Jordan river 7 times and came up cured.
This is what we are doing at Gospel Growth Ministries. And yet this truly is the way to freedom. This is how people have been finding freedom for two thousand years, long before there ever was a Setting Captives Free or all the numerous programs and methods like it. Jesus said it this way: "And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old is better.
And yet the truth is the old is not better; the new wine of the gospel is better, it is just that it is an acquired taste. And Jesus does not allow both to exist together, the old and the new, and simply give people their choice. No, it is the gospel or nothing. I hope this makes sense to you.
8 ways to attain a pure heart | Transforming Grace
I appreciate your comments, and as I said above I have wrestled and prayed through this issue for a long time. So you are voicing something I struggled with for many years, and have come down firmly on the side of where we are now. When He said, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear. How sad. Want to get in touch?

As we do this, the promise that keeps us motivated is that one day we will wear clean pure white linen at the marriage supper of the Lamb Revelation , and we will dwell in the city of pure gold Revelation that is illuminated by the glory of God Revelation and so shall we see God for ever. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. One last Scripture. They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient, and worthless for any good deed.
To all others there is only impurity. They demonstrate that they do not believe God because they do not obey God. I do not know your hearts, but God does. I have been in ministry long enough to know that eventually what is really in your heart will come out. For those that are pure in heart there will be a deeper walk with Christ. For those that are not, some of whom as I said earlier may even give an outward appearance of being good, will eventually tire of the charade and return to serving what is at the center of their hearts which is themselves.
If you have never made a profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, or if you are living a charade and you know it, I invite you to turn to Jesus Christ and let Him begin His cleansing work. Let Him purify your heart. Talk with me or one of the church leaders today. If you do know the Lord Jesus Christ.
I challenge you to continue to let the Holy Spirit purify your life in every area and bring glory to the name of Jesus. Flee every defilement of the flesh and spirit and perfect yourself in holiness in the fear of God 2 Corinthians Pastor Scott L. It starts in the heart. I have to be filling my mind constantly with Scripture and pray without ceasing. That will help keep my thoughts pure.
That verse reminds me to just bring my thoughts to the Lord and let Him throw out the ugly and impure thoughts. He guides my thought life. If I can be faithful about doing that, the rest will fall into place. Dancing and the music we listen to. You can go on just about any social media and find completely ungodly things. How can you be pure in body, mined, soul, and spirit — not just in public, but before the Lord? When I read that question many things pop into my mined, but I will only list 3 of them.
Setting Captives Free repents of focus on sin and repentance...
One, first thing in the morning read the Bible and get deep into his word. Also pray, pray, pray! Two, I think about how I dress. I think that dressing modesty is a very big part also. It helps me stay focused on God, instead the world.
Three, respecting your parents and siblings. I find that it is hard to keep my eyes on God when I am not respecting my parents or siblings. And one way I respect them is by always being ready to help out with anything. Thank you and right on time! Purity is not only physical, but a heart issue.
Whoa, so awesome and the truth smack in your face. Great article! I find that the best way for me to strive for purity is to memorize and meditate on Scripture. In order to sin, there has to be two things: 1 Availability and 2 Knowledge of the Payoff. We live in a society where filth is easily accessible.
I think you have to constant submit yourself to God, and actualy listening The Holy Spirit. Always looking for ways to be santified. This article was great although I am younger than most who this would relate to, this was able to connect deep down with and to me. Thank you for writing things like this to help people like me! I really pray and hope that I am setting an example for others. Being more open to my faith, reading and studying my Bible everyday, always looking for new ways to grow, and showing that purity comes from the heart and being an example and leader for others.
When temptation comes along, reading the Bible and praying helps to bring us out of a physical mindset and back to a heavenly, righteous mindset. I bring myself back to the living Word of God and search out the love of the one knows me.

Then I start wanting and coveting everything that everyone else has, and I fall into only thinking about me, me, me, me, me. That is impure. Ultimately, I think every sin starts with selfishness — pride, lying, showing off, etc.. My family has Philippians hanging up by our TV to remind us to be pure in what we watch. Some areas of impurity that I have experienced are movies and reading materials — magazines, novels, and newspapers alike. This really slapped me in my face after I was married and moved to a college town where my husband was the college minister.
When I began to see the struggles of young men and how immodest dress effects them, I began to see each student as a soul, each with their own personal struggles. It was easier as a married woman to cover up my body because it was now my husbands, but it is still hard to express to the single young women in my life how important it is to keep themselves pure in this way.
Some of the people I know have done some really bad things and are not saved, but I dismiss it by saying I am only doing this for work. I try to keep myself pure in my body, mind, soul, and spirit unto the Lorsd by saying a quick prayer trying to overcome the sin in my mind and just focus in the Lord. Sometimes things can get tuff and all Im left with is prayer to pray, and pray! It helps me reset my mind and carry on thinking about my Savior Jesus Christ. How can you be pure in mind, body, soul, and spirit….
